PHOENIX — Arizona lawmakers did not appear to be among the politicians who were sent bombs and other suspicious packages on Wednesday.

No one in the state’s congressional delegation reported any threats, but U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told the Arizona Republic that there was “suspicious activity” involving him over the weekend. He did not provide any more information, citing a law enforcement investigation.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema also told reporters during a campaign event that her office had not received “any kind of dangerous communication” and took the opportunity to condemn her opponent, Republican Martha McSally, for her “negative campaign…focused almost exclusively on false attacks and negative language.”

The U.S. Secret Service intercepted a bomb that was addressed to Hillary Clinton at her Chappaqua, New York, home and a possible explosive that was sent to former President Barack Obama in his home in Washington. The devices were discovered late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

A New York City bomb squad also removed a suspicious package from CNN’s New York headquarters, which was evacuated. The package contained a live explosive and envelope with white powder, New York City police said. The substance was being tested to see if it was dangerous.

President Donald Trump said a “major federal investigation” was underway to find who is responsible for sending the devices.

Republican U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko called the attempted attacks an “act of terror” and thanked law enforcement officials in a statement.
