PHOENIX — Officials in Goodyear have notified residents their online accounts may have been compromised and the city’s bill-pay system has been taken offline.
A spokeswoman for the suburb west of Phoenix, Sherine Zaya, said in an email a customer had alerted them early Monday that there was something wrong.
An investigation was launched immediately.
“City staff reacted quickly by disabling the system and alerting the system’s vendor. Residents were notified via the city’s social media platforms,” the Tuesday email read.

Residents whose personal information was compromised were to be contacted by city staff.
City Manager Julie Arendall said in a statement, “If you see anything that looks suspicious, please contact your credit card issuer right away.”
It will take several days to figure out how many accounts were hit and what type of breach it was, according to the email.
