Arizona juvenile parolees stuff holiday boxes for Valley food bank

PHOENIX — On Friday, some kids who ran on the wrong side of the law did a little good by packing holiday boxes at a Valley food bank.

Employees of the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections also partook in the 10th annual event at St. Mary’s Food Bank.

“Partnering with St. Mary’s Food Bank provides meaningful service that benefits many lives,” the agency’s interim director Jeff Hood said.

“For 10 years ,this service day has not only provided a way for youth on parole to complete community service, but it also gives our staff an opportunity to give back to a community we serve.”

The kids spent three hours sorting over 14,000 pounds of food. They also distributed the food boxes Friday afternoon.

St Mary’s Food Bank is accepting donations at Fry’s Food Stores for the holiday. Cashiers will take cash or non-perishable food items.

Also, throughout the month of December, $1 from every sale of Holiday Blend and Winter Dream tea will be donated to St. Mary’s Food Bank.
