Gilbert dealer giving vet who stole car to help Las Vegas victims free truck

PHOENIX — A Gilbert car dealership said Friday it would give a veteran who stole a vehicle after the Las Vegas shooting a truck of his own.
B5 Motors owner Shane Beus said he was impressed by the actions of Taylor Winston, who reportedly transported people to the hospital from the Route 91 Harvest Festival in the stolen truck.
“B5 Motors offered to provide Winston with a free truck to honor him and express appreciation for his bravery, courage and true American spirit,” the company said in an email.
Winston will be given the truck at the dealership, located near McQueen and Elliot roads, on Monday morning.
Winston, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq, said he and his friends initially used the truck as a makeshift aid station but made the decision to drive people from the scene quickly.
“It was still quite scary, but we just knew they had to get to the hospital immediately,” Winston told CNN, adding that he helped transport some of the most critically injured people.
“No ambulances were immediately available. There was far too many causalities for anyone to handle. Probably one of the hardest parts was leaving everyone behind that I couldn’t fit in who were still critical injured.”
More than 50 people were killed in Sunday’s shooting. Hundreds more were injured.
