PHOENIX — There’s some good news for Maricopa County parks enthusiasts.

The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department is lifting its annual fire restrictions Sept. 2. That means visitors can use campfires, fire pits and charcoal grills starting Labor Day weekend.

“Over the past couple of months, the majority of the parks have benefited from the monsoon season so we’re comfortable lifting the ban,” department director R.J. Cardin said in a release.

“However, our West Valley parks are not out of the woods just yet. If wind conditions or other factors become a problem, the park supervisors may issue a temporary fire ban to ensure park and visitor safety.”

The system-wide fire ban began May 31 to limit the possibility of brushfires.

There are 10 Maricopa County parks, including Lake Pleasant Regional Park and White Tank Mountain Regional Park.

We want to hear from you.
