Motorcyclist dies after crash with police vehicle in Glendale

PHOENIX — A Glendale motorcyclist was killed at an intersection in Glendale on Saturday night after colliding with a Glendale Police vehicle.
The man was identified as 41-year-old Edward Steven Sanchez, who was pronounced dead at a local Valley hospital.
At the corner of Grand and Myrtle Avenues, a police officer making a left turn on to westbound Myrtle collided with Sanchez traveling southeast on Grand.
According to a release from the Glendale Police Department, there was no indication that lights or sirens were activated by the officer.
The release said that left turn traffic arrows were green for traffic on Grand.
Sanchez was wearing a helmet and the officer used a trauma kit to try to keep him alive until Glendale Fire arrived on the scene.
The officer, who was only identified as a four-year veteran of the department, did not sustain any injuries.
An ongoing investigation is underway and was being conducted by Glendale Police Vehicular Crimes detectives.
