PHOENIX — A 48-year-old man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a pole Friday near 32nd Avenue and Camelback Road, the Phoenix Police Department said.

At about 3:30 p.m., police said the man was traveling westbound on Camelback when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle veered through all lanes of traffic and drove onto a sidewalk before colliding with the pole, Phoenix police Sgt. Alan Pfohl said in a statement.

Pfohl said the man, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He said witnesses told police the man may have suffered a medical event while he was driving his vehicle.

It is unclear if speed was a factor.
