PHOENIX — For the first time in its history, Arizona State University will have an on-campus polling site for the November general election.
“We are thrilled that ASU will finally have a polling location on campus,” Samantha Pstross, the executive director of the Arizona Advocacy Network and president of the Commission for Election Accountability, said in a press release.
The new polling location will be at the Sun Devil Fitness Center, located near Apache Boulevard and McAllister Avenue, on the south end of campus.
The Commission for Election Accountability, along with ASU student government and several student political groups, met with Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell’s office to push for the polling location.
“We asked the student groups what they would like to see happen,” Pstross said. “The student groups found several polling locations and together with attorney Jim Barton, drafted a letter to recorder Purcell, who was very receptive.”
The polling place will only be open for the general election. Students who want to vote in next week’s Arizona primary will still have to find a different site off-campus.
