PHOENIX — Google Express, Google’s delivery shopping service announced Wednesday that it will begin serving Phoenix-area residents with next-day deliveries from a number of national and local retailers.
With Google Express in the Valley, members will be able to order groceries, electronics and other goods from stores such as Target and Costco without having to get into their hotter-than-the-sun cars.
“Since we first launched Google Express, we’ve been working on making sure we have the best experience for both consumers and retailers,” said Ashley Lynch, a spokesperson for Google. “We’ve received a tremendous amount of positive feedback from both, and are now excited to start expanding the program to reach even more shoppers and local business owners in Arizona.”
Google Express’s main competitor is Amazon Prime, who offers speedier same-day deliveries on certain items.
To use Google’s delivery service, shoppers must pay a yearly fee of $95 (a few bucks less than the $99 per year Amazon Prime membership) after a free 3-month trial period. However, some items, such as alcohol and cold groceries will garner $3 fees.
A $5 non-member fee is charged for each delivery for those that do not want to shell out the $95 yearly membership fee.
