Pizza Hut asks Italian seniors for feedback on new offerings

You may remember the many commercials from a few years ago when Pizza Hut introduced its new Tuscani pasta dishes.
It looks like the pizza chain has again come up with some creative ways to promote its latest offerings, as seen in a new campaign called “Flavor of Now.”
Slate says the chain has produced several new advertisements that take place in some very specific towns worldwide.
For the new ads, Pizza Hut is taking its new menu all over — to a bingo night in Boring, Maryland; a softball game in Bland, Missouri; and even to Sorrento, Italy. (And yes, Boring and Bland are real places.)
In the Sorrento-based ad, produced by creative agency Deutsch L.A., several old-school pizza connoisseurs are asked what they think of Pizza Hut’s new offerings, which include flavors like toasted Asiago and salted pretzel crusts and honey sriracha sauce.
The Italian seniors look like the pies are a different kind of animal altogether.
“It’s not pizza,” one woman says incredulously.
The group also tests out “other new world” things, like mobile ordering, jeggings, and EDM [electronic dance music]. “Participants were paid, but still don’t like change,” the ad notes in tiny white text.
Pizza Hut might be having some fun with a group of seniors set in their ways, but the restaurant chain also might be poking some fun at itself, as Slate notes.
