Arizona no longer screening Liberian travelers for Ebola

PHOENIX — Arizona health officials are no longer screening those arriving from Liberia for Ebola because the outbreak there has ended, an official said.

One year after a the worst Ebola outbreak in world history, people entering Arizona who have been in Liberia are encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms but are not subject to a screening.

“We don’t contact them everyday,” Dr. Cara Christ with the Arizona Department of Health Services said.

Christ said only 12 people since the end of the outbreak have arrived in Arizona.

People traveling from Ebola-hit Guinea and Sierra Leone are still subject to screenings.
