PHOENIX — A hiker who went missing on a Phoenix-area mountain was found dead Friday, police said.
Sgt. Jonathan Howard with the Phoenix Police Department said the 48-year-old woman was hiking with a group of people in South Mountain Park when she struck out ahead of them on the trail. She never rejoined the group and her body was found about 3:30 p.m.
“She was about 100 yards off the trail,” Howard said.
It is unknown why the woman died, but Howard said no foul play is suspected. It is possible she became disoriented or had a medical emergency.
The woman, who is from Texas, has not been identified.
Howard said hikers should use caution and carry plenty of water, especially in the summer.
