Under the sun: Metro Phoenix to hit 100 days of 100-degree heat

The Valley is expected to experience another 100-degree temperature day for the 100th time this year, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday marks the second official day of fall, but Valley temperatures aren’t letting up as Phoenix headed into another 100-degree day.

These temperatures are five-to-six degrees above the average temperature during this time of year, but Dan Leins, a spokesman for the National Weather Service, said high temperatures have stuck around in past years.

“We have had some years where the last 100-degree day of the year wasn’t until the middle or even the end of October,” he said.

The average day that Valley temperatures fall bellow 100 is Sept. 17, Leins said.

Low temperatures will be in the 80s in Phoenix, but Valley residents hoping for a reprieve from daytime heat may not get immediate relief.

“Today (Thursday) and … (Friday) are a lock, then it will cool down a little bit once we get into the weekend, but it will still be close to right around 100,” Leins said.

Meanwhile, parts of northern Arizona were experiencing more traditional fall weather with temperatures in the 70s.

Sounds like a weekend Flagstaff trip is in order.
