Report: Miami school shaves student’s head

A student at a Miami middle school had his head shaved after school officials deemed his haircut was gang-related.

A student at a Miami middle school had his head shaved after school officials deemed his haircut was gang-related.

But according to NBC Miami, the 11-year-old Danny Valdes’ family said the haircut was not gang-related, but simply showing support for the Miami Heat.

Valdes’ stepfather gave him the haircut before he went to a Heat game. It featured the team’s logo, the Miami skyline and “305,” the city’s area code.

“I wanted to get my hair like that to show how proud I am of my Heat,” Valdes told NBC 2.

Officials called Valdes’ family to tell them the haircut was inappropriate and they agreed to change it after the school day was over.

However, a counselor shaved off the haircut after claiming he had parental permission. Valdes agreed to the shave so he wouldn’t miss class, but his parents claim they never gave permission.

The district has said it knows of the situation and called the action’s of the counselor “not appropriate.”
