Movies in a Minute: ‘Money Monster’

The idea behind “Money Monster” was a good one, but, ironically, for a movie with “money” in the title, it took the cheap way out.

I wish they would have used the cast — Julia Roberts and George Clooney probably didn’t come cheap — to tell a bristling tale of what happens when a madman with a gun and a bomb invades a money advice TV show.

You know the type: Spend your money this way, move your debt around this way and, POOF, you’re rich.

In “Money Monster,” the bad guy is mad about, you guessed it, losing money. The movie spends most of its time taking shots at anyone who is rich and I think it really falls flat on its face from that point.

It was predictable. The rich guys are bad, the film gets preachy at points and just kind of lacks a full explanation.

It’s too bad that “Money Monster” sold itself a bit short.
