PHOENIX — Gov. Doug Ducey announced Wednesday he’s sending both people and equipment to help neighboring states fight wildfires.

According to Ducey, the Arizona State Forestry has deployed fire management personnel and wildland fire engines to assist California and other states across the west over the last week.

“We are pleased to send both our staff and our local cooperating fire departments,” Ducey said in a statement. “Not only is Arizona’s wildland fire community supporting California, AZSF has also dispatched state and local personnel to Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.”

Ducey also stressed the importance of out-of-state collaboration during the wildfire season.

“I commend AZSF for its outgoing and active efforts to help our neighbors in need. Arizona knows what it’s like to suffer a devastating fire season,” the statement read.

The firefighters are expected to combat out-of-state wildfires throughout the entire fire season.
