GOP presidential hopefuls Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz visit Phoenix

PHOENIX — GOP presidential hopefuls Carly Fiorina and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz were scheduled this weekend to address the National Federation of Republican Women’s convention in Phoenix.

At least 1,200 were expected to attend the event at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. Fiorina, her party’s lone female candidate, will kick off the convention at 4:45 p.m.

Cruz will take the stage Saturday at 5 p.m.

All 17 Republican presidential candidates were invited.

Candidates Ben Carson and GOP front-runner Donald Trump made appearances in the Valley earlier in the summer. Trump visited in July while Carson followed with an appearance in August.

Earlier this week, Trump made disparaging remarks about Fiorina’s looks, but later said he was referring to her “person.”

The business mogul was quoted in a Rolling Stone story as saying of Fiorina, a former business executive, “Look at that face. Would anyone vote for that. Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?”
