PHOENIX — Wine and beer will join Starbucks’ menu options in Phoenix early next year after the city council approved the coffee giant’s liquor license applications on Wednesday.

Starbucks applied for licenses for four locations. They were approved by an 8-1 vote, despite Phoenix police saying it disagreed with the requests.

Liquor licenses for some of the company’s locations in both Tempe and Scottsdale have already been approved.

Starbucks Evenings is the latest company expansion that would have some locations — including those in Phoenix — pouring libations as early as January.

Starbucks has been rolling out wine, beer and small dishes at select U.S. locations to try to boost sales later in the day.
