Gilbert man sentenced to over 10 years for fentanyl related death

PHOENIX — A 29-year-old Gilbert man was sentenced to over ten years in prison for fentanyl distribution.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, John Yoon Yi was sentenced to 135 months in prison and three years of supervised release on Oct. 15.

Yi previously pled guilty to distribution of fentanyl resulting in death.

On Sept. 25, 2015, Yi sold three blue “M-30” pills that looked like oxycodone to a customer, according to the Attorney’s Office.

The man died later that night from a fentanyl overdose after consuming one of the pills.
