Faith in Humanity: Valley group offers bags of hope to cancer patients

When battling cancer, the phrase “the more the merrier” is applicable in a lot of ways, but a big one people miss out on is supplies.

A Valley charity, founded by a cancer survivor, distributes bags to women with cancer with the little supplies most people would forget about when fighting for their lives. From a soft blanket to use during chemotherapy to a back scratcher for post-surgery, My Hope Bag knows a small comfort can go a long way.

Sarah Ellery, who founded the nonprofit, said volunteers don’t just drop off the bag with a “good luck.” They stick around and talk to the person with cancer. Most of the volunteers are survivors themselves and know how the patient is feeling, something not everyone can relate to.

After the bag is dropped off, the patient is given contact information so she has a steady stream of support during her fight.

The charity accepts donations online.
