Cottonwood Police arrested four people Friday in connection to a home invasion that led to one person being shot and killed.
Officers arrested Calvin Clark, 28, of Goodyear and Jermaine Shields, 21 of Buckeye on suspicion of aggravated assault, burglary, robbery and murder. Hope Olszewski, 20, of Buckeye was arrested on suspicion of facilitation of a burglary and aggravated assault while Karrie Funkhouseer, 22, of Phoenix was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and endangerment.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 9 p.m. in the 600 block of South Second street where officers observed several subjects attempting to leave the area in a Red SUV. Police said they detained the suspects while other officers attempted to locate the shooting scene.
Officers were then directed to a home where a shooting occurred and upon entry, police discovered a 27-year-old man from Goodyear with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man’s name is being with held pending notification of next of kin.
Officers then contacted a male subject outside of the home who was bleeding from the head. The man told police that he and a friend were working on a vehicle in the yard when he noticed three men running towards them. The men ran toward the house and upon entry the suspects pushed the door open and a fight ensued. During the fight, shots were fired and suspects fled the house and into a red SUV driven by a female.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
