PHOENIX — KTAR News is headed to Washington D.C. as part of the Arizona Cardinals’ fourth annual Civics Matters Arizona program trip.
The trip will see 275 Arizona high school students travel to the nation’s capital on the Cardinals team plane on an all-expenses-paid visit as part of the Civics Matters Arizona program.
The trip will start Wednesday morning with a special send-off event with Gov. Katie Hobbs in attendance at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and will run though Saturday.
“The trip is important to me and it’s important to the team. It’s a part of our community impact and what we want to do,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill told KTAR News’ The Mike Broomhead Show on Tuesday.
As part of the trip, students will participate in a tour of the U.S. Capitol and receive a private tour of the Supreme Court. Students will also get first-hand civics lessons through trips to monuments, memorials, museums and other D.C. sites, according to a news release.
“We’re not trying to have a bunch of kids ultimately run for office,” Bidwill said. “What we’re trying to do is build better citizenship and have people understand to get their news from multiple sources, be engaged citizens and give back to the community.”
