PHOENIX — Nearly two million fans took in a game spring training baseball game in Arizona this year, the Cactus League said.
The 1.9 million fans beats the old record of 1.732 million set in 2013.
“Every one of our ballparks reported more business,” Cactus League Baseball Association President Mark Coronado said. “We expect some of our teams to draw well every year, but this season every community experienced the positive growth in our industry.”
Coronado said having both World Series teams — the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants — playing in Arizona boosted attendance. The largest single draw — 222,415 fans — was the Chicago Cubs’ Sloan Park in Mesa.
The largest two-team draw was Talking Stick Fields, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, with 351,000 total fans.
Fifteen Major League Baseball teams play in the Cactus League.
