Walmart, Arizona’s largest retail employer, to raise wages

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Arizona’s largest retail employer will be increasing their hourly wage.

Walmart is giving 33,100 raises to associates in Arizona after spending more than $44 million to do so.

Back in April of this year, Walmart began a $2.7 billion initiative when they increased their hourly wages for full-time workers to $9.

In February of 2016, the full-time hourly wage will increase even more. This time, it will be up to $13.20 for full-timers and $10.50 for part-timers.

The minimum wage in the state of Arizona is currently $8.05 an hour.

According to Business Journal, this could lead to more than just raises at Walmart. Stores such as Target, TJ Maxx and Gap have recently raised their wages as a result of Walmart’s actions, calling them a “catalyst” for these other stores.
