PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Public Safety announced another step Wednesday in its efforts to find the person or people behind the Interstate 10 shootings — billboards.

The agency said it was rolling out 16 billboards across the Valley to advertise a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the shootings.

The all-digital billboards will be on display in the following areas:

  • Interstate 17 and Thomas Road
  • I-17 north of Bell Road
  • I-17 near 28th Street
  • I-17 south of Dunlap Road
  • I-17 south of Deer Valley Road
  • I-17 west of Seventh Avenue
  • I-10 east of 41st Street
  • I-10 north of Van Buren Street
  • I-10 north of Baseline Road
  • I-10 east of 75th Avenue
  • Two at I-10 near 19th Avenue
  • Two at I-10 near 59th Avenue
  • Two at I-10 near Warner Road

On Tuesday, DPS said it would be distributing flyers to raise awareness about the shootings and reward. Between 7,000 and 8,000 were distributed by Wednesday morning.

A person of interest was detained in the case and later arrested on charges unrelated to the shootings. Oscar De La Torre Munoz faces multiple charges and is due on court on Friday.

The shootings began late morning Aug. 29, when an SUV heading east on I-10 near 19th Avenue was hit by a bullet. Since then six more vehicles were hit by a bullet and four were hit by a projectile.

There has not been a confirmed shooting since Sept. 10.

State troopers have been patrolling freeways from early morning to night. Bart Graves with DPS said officers all are working on little to no sleep.

DPS can be contacted at 602-644-5805. Silent Witness can be reached at 480-WITNESS.

We want to hear from you.
