A new hotel, corporate campus, retail and housing are stitching together a $2 billion vision for CityNorth.
The nearly 100-acre property in north Phoenix has endured a series of challenges since it was proposed before the Great Recession, preventing significant development from moving forward.
CityNorth was once planned as a retail-centric destination with upscale stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Macy’s. But after falling victim to the economic downturn and legal issues, it eventually traded hands to different owners.
The project developer, California-based Crown Realty Group Inc., has successfully pushed its new plans forward after acquiring the site in 2019, installing key infrastructure improvements and securing zoning approvals from the city of Phoenix.
“We wanted to just get this property ready for full development,” said Rick Carpinelli, senior vice president of acquisition and development at Crown Realty.
