Law enforcement activity closes Loop 202 in East Valley for 6 hours

PHOENIX — Law enforcement activity brought traffic on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway to a standstill in the East Valley for more than six hours on Monday, authorities said.

Loop 202 Santan is closed in both directions at Gilbert Road due to law enforcement activity.

Both directions of the freeway were closed at Gilbert Road, at the Chandler-Gilbert border, around 7:40 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
In addition, the Chandler Police Department said all traffic in the area was shut down.
ADOT finally announced that traffic had resumed just before 2 p.m.
Chandler Police later announced it had responded to a welfare check involving a 31-year-old female on the Loop 202 overpass. Following a lengthy ordeal, the female was moved safely at around 1:30 p.m. and was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
