PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by three years of supervised probation for assaulting police officers, according to authorities.
Elias Retes, 28, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, according to a press release from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Back on May 18, 2024, Phoenix Police officers responded to a report of someone setting objects on fire near 7th Avenue and McDowell Road.
When officers tried to arrest Retes, he fought back and violently resisted, injuring several officers, MCAO said.
“Violence against our men and women in blue shows a lack of regard for public safety that will simply not be tolerated in Maricopa County,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a release. “This sentencing is proof that my office is working hard every day to ensure individuals who commit such acts are held accountable.”
