Buckeye to unveil new veterans memorial with ceremony

PHOENIX — The city of Buckeye is unveiling a new veterans memorial to honor U.S. military members with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Sundance Park ahead of Veteran’s Day on Monday.
The ceremony, located on Lower Buckeye and Rainbow roads, will take place on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The concept for the memorial was greenlit by the Veterans Memorial Committee and the Community Services Advisory Board in January. J2 Engineering then developed the design plans. After receiving City Council approval in June, Willmeng Construction began work on the memorial during the summer.
The event will be led by Mayor Eric Orsborn. The posting of colors by the Buckeye Honor Guard, Buckeye VFW Post #12098 and the Festival Foothills Honor Guard. Representatives from Luke Air Force Base and the 492nd Civil Affairs Battalion will also be at the ceremony.
