PHOENIX — A Peoria man is facing a murder charge for the death of his 2-year-old stepchild, authorities announced Tuesday.
Officers responded to the area of 108th and Olive avenues on Oct. 24 after Hein Lwin, 26, reported that the child was choking on a cloth, according to the Peoria Police Department.
Police and fire personnel performed life-saving measures, and the child was rushed to a hospital.
Investigators developed a reason to believe Lwin abused the child multiple times, causing serious injuries, police said.
He was then arrested on attempted murder, aggravated assault and child abuse charges.
The child died three days later, and the charges against Lwin were amended to include first-degree murder while he was still in custody.
No other details were made available. The investigation is ongoing.
