PHOENIX — Four years after Donald Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate since 1996 to lose Arizona, he reclaimed the state’s 11 electoral votes.
The Associated Press called the Grand Canyon State for the former president on Saturday, pushing his projected electoral vote haul to 312. That surpasses his winning 2016 total of 304 electoral votes against Hillary Clinton.
Trump has been leading Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, in Arizona since election night on Tuesday. But The Associated Press’ data analysts weren’t convinced that his lead was insurmountable until they saw more results.
When the call came down, Trump was leading Harris 52.6%-46.4%, a margin of 184,935 votes, according to the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office results page.
The Green Party and Libertarian candidates were pulling under 1% of the vote combined.
Nevada’s race was called this morning by The Associated Press, which put its six electoral votes into the win column for Trump.
With Arizona won, Trump successfully completed a sweep of all seven battleground states in the 2024 election, adding it to his trophy case alongside Nevada, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
Arizona was a battleground state for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris
Regardless of the Arizona and Nevada outcomes, Trump already clinched control of the White House.
Media outlets started calling the race for Trump after he was projected to win Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia, three states Biden won in 2020, and North Carolina.
Arizona was a focal point for both candidates this cycle after Biden narrowly defeated Trump in 2020, making him the first Democrat to win Arizona since Bill Clinton’s reelection.
