Tempe police arrest driver after collision near Arizona State sent cyclists to hospital

PHOENIX — Tempe police arrested a man after a collision sent three bicyclists to the hospital earlier this month, authorities announced on Friday evening.

Gustavo Cuiriz, 21, was arrested on Tuesday for crashing a Toyota SUV into a group of bicyclists on Oct. 6.

Tempe police responded to the crash near College Avenue and 15th Street.

Cuiriz remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Investigators said impairment was not a factor.

The 21-year-old was arrested on three counts of causing serious physical injury by moving violations, a class 1 misdemeanor.

The court may also suspend his driving privileges, according to authorities.
