Shot in the dark: Phoenix facility hosting nighttime target shooting games

PHOENIX – Shotgun enthusiasts can test their skills at night twice a month at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in north Phoenix.

The venue’s Clay Target Center is now hosting an after-hours version of the popular 5-Stand shooting game, the Arizona Game and Fish Department announced last week.

In 5-Stand@Night, as the evening game is known, machines throw colored targets that appear to glow in the sky. Recreational shooters can play the game on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gold Card encouraged for payment at Ben Avery

Participants must cover the cost of the clay targets. To facilitate payment, shooters are encouraged to purchase a Gold Card from the Ben Avery Shooting Facility before it closes at 7 p.m. on Thursday nights.

There is a one-time fee of $15 to buy a Gold Card, which can then be preloaded with at least $100 in clay targets (about 350). The card provides a discounted rate for all trap, skeet and sporting clay targets at the Clay Target Center.

The Ben Avery Clay Target Center is located at 5060 W. Skeet St., near Carefree Highway and 51st Avenue.
