Arizona teen arrested for allegedly making school threat on Snapchat

PHOENIX — A 13-year-old middle school student was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly posting a school violence threat on Snapchat, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the threat was posted on Snapchat Tuesday evening and was reported to the FBI.

The boy had lived with his father and was a student at Bagdad Middle and High School until September. He then moved to Mesa to live with his mother and attended school there. It is unknown which school the threat was aimed at.

The Mesa Police Department learned the boy may have returned to Bagdad and contacted YCSO Thursday morning. The boy’s father told deputies the teenager intended to return to that school and had boarded a school bus.

School staff contacted the boy on campus before school began and authorities spoke to him. The boy said he did not intend to follow through on the threat.

The boy was later booked in juvenile detention and charged with making terrorist threats and disruption of an educational facility.
