PHOENIX — Maricopa County officials are partnering with Motorola to give the sheriff’s office a much-needed technological upgrade, officials announced on Monday.
It’s all thanks to a decision made by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors during their meeting last Wednesday.
Their approval of a $25 million contract with Motorola Solutions, Inc. will pave the way for a total technological overhaul over the next 10 years.
Interim Maricopa County Sheriff Russ Skinner said this funding will be a boon to authorities who want to keep the Valley safe.
“We are always on a progressive mission to evolve, innovate, and improve our approach to public safety,” Skinner said in a news release.
Changes Maricopa County-Motorola contract will make
With this money, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) will benefit from an upgraded mobile, records management and dispatch system.
Essentially, the new system will make it easier for deputies in the field to receive 911 call information. On top of that, the upgraded system will better retain call logs in a database to make reporting easier. Finally, this upgraded network will facilitate mobile integration with other public safety agencies in Arizona.
Skinner said the Board’s decision to upgrade MCSO’s technological capabilities will have positive and far-reaching effects.
“This funding will improve safety for our staff and community, our productivity, communication and transparency with the public, our record-keeping strategies, and our ability to analyze how we’re allocating personnel and resources,” Skinner said.
The new technological upgrades mark an important step toward real-time data sharing with other public safety partners, officials said.
Essentially, the upgrades will help MCSO work more effectively with the Department of Defense, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement authorities.
Why technological upgrades are needed
Chairman Jack Sellers said these changes will help meet the demands of the ever-growing community of Maricopa County.
“MCSO is the fourth largest county law enforcement agency in the United States and is responsible for serving an area that covers more than 9,200 square miles,” Sellers said in the release. “This investment ensures that MCSO has the best-in-class technology needed to protect the public and provide exceptional customer service to Maricopa County residents.”
