PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of being connected to a shooting that injured six victims last year, according to court records.
Caroline Grace Moreno Pope, 19, allegedly conspired with members of a criminal street gang to take revenge on her ex-boyfriend, who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, according to arrest documents.
Four minors and two adults were injured in the shooting, which took place at an apartment complex near 11th and Peoria avenues.
Moreno Pope allegedly gave two gang members her ex-boyfriend’s address and encouraged them to open fire on him and several others on March 24, 2023, according to arrest documents.
Why Phoenix woman was arrested
During the time of the shooting, Moreno Pope was dating one of the alleged assailants.
Her then-boyfriend and the other man who opened fire on the victims were part of Northside 15th Avenue, a criminal street gang, arrest documents said.
The shooting was planned for weeks, with Moreno Pope allegedly texting one of the shooters “I want him dead” and “I wanna see I torture him tho” on March 6.
After the shooting, two of the victims — including Moreno Pope’s ex-boyfriend — told police she said the shots wouldn’t miss next time and they would end up in body bags, arrest documents said.
Her ex-boyfriend also said she gave the shooters his address, work location and the addresses of his family members, according to arrest documents.
Moreno Pope was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday near 19th and Peoria avenues.
She admitted to messaging her boyfriend, who was in the gang, and sending over the location of her ex-boyfriend’s house, arrest documents said. She allegedly cited her reasoning as being mad that her relationship with her ex-boyfriend ended.
Moreno Pope was booked into jail for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and conspiracy to discharge a firearm at a residence. She also faces a street gang charge.
She is being held on a $1.5 million bond.
