Detectives investigating fatal hit-and-run with pedestrian in wheelchair in Goodyear

PHOENIX — A man in a wheelchair died after he was struck by a vehicle in Goodyear on Saturday evening, authorities said.

Police responded to the area near McDowell and Dysart roads at approximately 6:30 p.m. to calls regarding a hit-and-run, the Phoenix Police Department announced in a press release.

Officers found the pedestrian injured and called for the Phoenix Fire Department for aid.

The man, identified later as 40-year-old Jeremy Ortiz, died on scene, authorities said.

The driver in the incident left the scene and has not been identified.

Detectives arrived, and the investigation is ongoing.

No additional information was available.
