PHOENIX — KTAR’s community spotlight this month focuses on a Valley community development program that provides services in hopes to empower individuals.
Chicanos Por La Causa will be celebrating its 53rd anniversary on Oct. 29, and Maria Jesus Cervantes, vice president of public relations, has seen first-hand how the organization has aided people through services.
The group provides services, including housing, economic development, education and social services, with the goal to empower everyone from low- to mid-income families.
Cervantes said the organization has also benefitted from Sanderson Ford’s Operation Santa Claus.
“This program supports our west Phoenix community center, which provides supporting services, GED English classes to parents…that means that we are able to provide services before they need the rest of our services,” Cervantes said.
“These families just want to be able to get the support they need to get ahead in life.”
The West Valley center currently supports around 200 families, Cervantes said.
