PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General candidates Kris Mayes and Abe Hamadeh faced off in a debate Wednesday night.
Mayes, the Democratic candidate, was the Arizona Corporation Commissioner from 2003-10 before becoming a senior sustainability scientist and professor at Arizona State University’s School of Global Sustainability.

Hamadeh, a Republican, is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and a former prosecutor of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Mayes was unopposed in her primary election, while Hamadeh defeated Rodney Glassman and Andrew Gould in the Republican primary.
Potential topics during the debate include abortions — with last week’s near-total ban ruling at the forefront — and elections.
The moderators of the 30-minute event will be Ted Simons of Arizona PBS and reporter Stacey Barchenger of the Arizona Republic.
The Citizens Clean Elections Commission sponsors debates for all contested statewide and legislative races as part of its voter education responsibilities. The nonpartisan board was created as part of the Clean Elections Act passed by voters in 1998.
