PHOENIX — The popular Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain will be closed to the public Monday due to a repaving project in Paradise Valley.
The town will work on road improvements near the trailhead, which is located at 4925 E. McDonald Drive. The project, part of Paradise Valley’s Annual Pavement Preservation work, will repave McDonald Drive from Tatum Boulevard to Casa Blanca Drive this month.
The project, which includes full width milling and an inch and a half asphalt overlay, started on Monday and runs until Sept. 30. The challenging 2.5-mile out-and-back Echo Canyon Trail, though, will close for only one day.
Roadwork will continue between Casa Blanca Drive and Scottsdale Road from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14.
Camelback Mountain, meanwhile, will see one of its routes reopen on Sept. 30, as the Cholla Trail will be available to hikers for the first time since 2020 after it underwent construction and a trailhead realignment.
