PHOENIX — Scottsdale Public Art and the city next week will dedicate the latest addition to its permanent art collection, a mosaic artwork called “Pinball Wizard.”
The dedication ceremony will take place Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the splash pad at Stetson Plaza, near Marshall Way Bridge, at the Scottsdale Waterfront, Scottsdale Public Art announced.
Visitors can attend the free event, which will highlight the work of the artist, Annette Coleman, as she worked with SPA to design and install the art pieces.
Her work features a new concrete wall and bench with 28 mosaic spheres and domes of numerous sizes.
“This was accomplished by using sketches, early construction of test spheres and budgeting to see if the idea I envisioned could move forward,” Coleman said.
“For public art projects, everyone, including engineers and conservators, weigh in on the idea and give feedback on feasibility of the artwork.”
She added that 28 spheres were covered with about 23,846 one-inch, hand cut stained glass tiles.
