Chandler to host cultural events to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month

PHOENIX – Chandler will host a month-long series of events to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is from Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

“Chandler Contigo” will be held at various locations throughout the East Valley city and offer activities for people of all ages, according to a press release.

The free kickoff event is set for Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Chandler Community Center and will include live performances, a DJ, food trucks and booths, cultural merchandise, community resources and activities such as crafts.

The four branches of the Chandler Public Library will host several events throughout the month, including Salsa with DJ Leo on Oct. 1, Reading Wrestlers or Luchadores de Lectura on Oct. 1, Latin American Crafts on Oct. 13 and Butterfly Fiesta on Oct. 15.

One of the highlight events in Chandler will be the 23rd Annual Mariachi and Folklorico Festival featuring the GRAMMY Award-winning Mariachi Los Camperos on Oct. 1 at the Chandler Center for the Arts.

There will also be a movie series in the city hosted at different locations.

“The Book of Life” will show at the Downtown Library on Oct. 3. Pixar’s “Coco” will play twice, starting at the Hamilton Library on Oct. 4 and then at Desert Breeze Park the following day.

Disney’s “Encanto” will play at the Downtown Library on Oct. 17.

There will be baby, preschool and family story time events throughout the month, as well.
