PHOENIX – Two men were shot to death and another was wounded at a Mesa apartment complex early Monday, authorities said.
A suspect is in custody for one of the deaths, but police are still working to determine what happened to the other two shooting victims.
Officers and a police helicopter responded to a shots fired call near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road around 2:20 a.m., the Mesa Police Department said in a press release.
The air unit and witnesses at the complex reported seeing Victor Silversmith, 24, walking in and out of an apartment with a gun in his hand. According to court documents, Silversmith lives at the apartment.
Police said Silversmith surrendered without incident.
While Silversmith was being detained, the air unit told officers on the ground there was a man down in the parking lot.
The officers found 21-year-old Salvador Morales, who’d been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police they’d seen Silversmith shooting in the area where Morales was found, according to the probable cause statement for Silversmith’s arrest.
Officers went into Silversmith’s apartment and found two other men with gunshot wounds.
Greyhawk Silversmith, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police believe Greyhawk Silversmith is the uncle of Victor Silversmith.
Three pistols, including two with empty magazines, were found in the apartment, according to the probable cause statement.
Victor Silversmith was booked into jail on one count of first-degree murder for Morales’ death.
The investigation into how the other two men were shot is ongoing. Police said they did not interview Victor Silversmith because he requested a lawyer.
