PHOENIX — A 44-year-old man died Friday afternoon after he fell near the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, officials said.
The park’s communications center received a report around 3:30 p.m. of a visitor who had fallen from the rim west of the Bright Angel Trail, according to a press release.
Rangers found the body of the man, who has not been identified, 200 feet below the rim.
Officials said the man was off trail when he accidentally fell off the edge.
The National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate the case.
Visitors were encouraged to keep a distance of at least six feet from the edge of the rim and to not climb over railings or fences.
