PHOENIX – Frontier Airlines is increasing its presence at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport by adding 10 direct destinations, the discount carrier announced Friday.
The expansion will be phased in starting in November, when Frontier launches its new Phoenix crew base. The base is expected to employ 180 pilots and 275 flight attendants when it opens.
“We are grateful for the commitment that Frontier has made with its crew base and the employment opportunities it provides,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a press release.
“More people will discover why Phoenix is a great vacation destination, business hub and place to call home.”
The first of the new routes will debut on Nov. 5, with daily flights to Philadelphia, Orange County in California, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood in Florida.
Service to Portland, Oregon, will start Nov. 6, followed by a daily route to Baltimore-Washington on Nov. 17.
Frontier, Sky Harbor’s fourth-largest carrier, will add direct flights from Phoenix to five more airports in mid-January: Nashville, Kansas City, Seattle-Tacoma, Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Indianapolis.
Service to Portland, Nashville, Kansas City, Seattle-Tacoma, Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Indianapolis will be limited at first and eventually increase to 2-4 times a week, depending on the route, starting Feb. 19.
Flight frequency and destinations are subject to change.
“This major expansion of service from PHX solidifies Frontier’s place as one of Phoenix’s largest airlines,” Barry Biffle, the airline’s president and CEO, said in the release.
