PHOENIX – The award-winning Phoenix chef behind the acclaimed Pizzeria Bianco and Tratto restaurants will be featured in the next season of “Chef’s Table” on Netflix.
Chris Bianco will be the main attraction for one of six episodes of “Chef’s Table: Pizza,” which the streaming giant will release on Sept. 7.
“Chris Bianco changed pizza in America forever,” Netflix said in promotional material for the show.
Bianco is credited with popularizing the artisanal style of pizza that he introduced at a Phoenix grocery store in 1988.
He now operates two Pizzeria Bianco locations in Phoenix and one in Los Angeles, along with Phoenix’s Tratto, Pane Bianco and Bar Bianco.
In 2003, he became the first pizzaiolo to win a prestigious James Beard Award for best chef, getting the nod for the Southwest region. He added a second Beard honor in June of this year, when he was named outstanding restaurateur.
Like with other seasons of the franchise, “Chef’s Table: Pizza” puts the spotlight on a different chef in each episode, with Bianco joined by Gabriele Bonci and Franco Pepe of Italy, Yoshihiro Imai of Japan, Ann Kim of Minneapolis, and Sarah Minnick of Portland, Oregon.
The pizza shows comprise the Emmy-nominated franchise’s ninth season, joining six volumes of “Chef’s Table” and three themed seasons focused on France, pastries and barbecue.
