PHOENIX – Multiple law enforcement agencies, led by police in Glendale, chased down a man in a pickup truck accused of abducting a woman at knifepoint overnight, authorities said Thursday.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Ryan Allen Oscar Makela. He was booked into jail on counts of domestic violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault, kidnapping, endangerment and unlawful flight, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Officers responded to the area of 47th Avenue and Bethany Home Road just before midnight Wednesday after Glendale police received a report that a man forced his ex-girlfriend into a truck and drove off.

Officers spotted the truck around 1 a.m. Thursday. The Phoenix Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety joined the pursuit.

The chase through Glendale and Phoenix, including on Interstates 10 and 17, lasted for nearly an hour.

Police said the chase ended near 42nd Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, when officers used stop sticks on the truck.

The woman was safely pulled from the vehicle, and the suspect was arrested, police said.
