PHOENIX — A woman was hospitalized and a man died from suicide hours after police surrounded his home during a domestic dispute late Saturday, authorities said.

Police responded to a call from a minor after 10 p.m. stating his father shot his mother near their home located at 67th Avenue and Baseline Road, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

When officers arrived they found the woman, in her late 40s, inside her car with multiple gunshot wounds.

She told officers her husband, John Hack, shot her while they were inside their home and as she attempted to leave in her vehicle.

Authorities surrounded the home and made attempts to talk to Hack for hours.

Hack was found dead inside the home after a search warrant was obtained and members of the special assignments unit entered the residence, police said.

The woman remains hospitalized.

Police said the minor was unharmed and outside of the home.

The investigation remains ongoing.
