MCSO announces bust of illegitimate marijuana dispensary in Phoenix

Aug 10, 2022, 4:25 AM | Updated: 7:08 am

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Task Force announced Tuesday it led a multiagency bust of an unauthorized marijuana dispensary that was allegedly selling psilocybin mushrooms in addition to its normal products.

Detectives investigated the Korporate Smoke location near 16th Street and Southern Avenue in Phoenix through undercover purchases over several months. They were brought into the store through the front door into a room with display cases containing illegal drugs, authorities said.

Employees allegedly radioed with others in the back room to bring orders to the customers.

Law enforcement surveilled the store and arrested Alisa Simpson, the suspected manager, last week.

Simpson and two others were booked for control of an illegal enterprise, sales of dangerous narcotics and fraud schemes.

Officers seized 95 pounds of marijuana flower, 881 THC vape cartridges, 62 mushrooms, 977 THC edibles, 6.5 pounds of THC cannabis, four handguns, three vehicles, two ATM machines, a safe, branding items, $34,562 in cash and $45,739.04 in bank account assets.

“This complex operation was successful due to the cooperation between all the law enforcement agencies involved,” Sheriff Paul Penzone said in the release.

“These efforts are crucial to keep illegal drugs off the streets of Maricopa County and protect our residents from these dangerous substances.”
