PHOENIX — A restaurant frequented by Arizona State University students and alumni for decades will be closing its doors later this month.

Tempe Vine Tavern & Eatery at the intersection of Rural Road and Apache Boulevard is set to close on July 23, Trent Robertson, general manager of the location, confirmed to KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.

However, the owners plan to debut a new location in August in Ahwatukee. The restaurant’s other Tempe location at Rural and Elliot roads will remain open as well.

“We will miss the ASU area but we also look forward to our new location,” Robertson said.

The pub near campus opened in August 1986.

Robertson told ABC15 the new Ahwatukee restaurant will be in a former Angry Crab Shack location near 39th Street and Ray Road that is in the process of being remodeled.

The restaurant is hiring for its new Ahwatukee location and those interested can send their information via email.

No reason was provided as to why the owners decided to close the location near ASU.
